Top 10 Title 1 Facts
1.) Title 1 is the Federal program that provides funding to local school districts to improve the academic achievement of disadvantaged students. It is part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act first passed in 1965.
2.) Funding is based on Free and Reduced Lunch Count and has averaged around $500,000 for Hart Public Schools annually.
3.) Students are found eligible for Title 1 services using the following criteria:
- reading and math assessment scores are below grade level
- teacher recommendation/observation
4.) Spitler Elementary is a School-wide Title 1 building, which means any student attending can receive help through Title 1.
5.) Title 1 funds pay for 7 academic support staff members: 4 Title 1 teachers and 3 Title 1 paraprofessionals who provide intervention to eligible students during Treasure Time.
6.) Title 1 funds pays for a .8 School Social Worker.
7.) Title 1 funds pay for Summer Treasure Time-extended school year programming focused on reading and math for eligible students.
8.) Title 1 funds pay for iPads and apps used for instruction at school.
9.) Title 1 funds pay for Nook E-readers and book selections used for extended school day reading support.
10.) Title 1 funds pay for Family Involvement activities such as: Family Math Night, Family Literacy Night, Kindergarten Food, Fun and Phonograms.
